Ingredient Substitutions

How many times have you wanted to make something and once you started it, found out that you didn’t have a certain ingredient?  I have a list of Ingredient Alternatives on the inside of my cupboard door where I keep my baking ingredients.  Here is a list of some that I have used.

Buttermilk                                         1 Tbsp lemon juice or vinegar and then fill up the rest of the cup with milk

1 Tbsp cornstarch                              2 Tbsp flour

1 egg                                                 1 teaspoon baking powder, 1 teaspoon oil, 1/4 cup liquid

1 clove garlic                                     1/8 teaspoon garlic powder

garlic salt                                          1/8 teaspoon garlic powder and 7/8 teaspoon salt
